Deitch Projects

Definitely one of the best galleries is outside of the Chelsea art cluster. Deitch projects is an institution, more than just 'art for sale', it harbors more of that idealistic art scene community that New York gets romanticized for, which is actually pretty hard to find nowadays. They got dope artists like Barry Mcgee, Swoon, Stefan Sagemeister, Michel Gondry, Ryan Mcguiness and group shows with solid concepts and always some form of installation that makes it more than pictures on a wall. Deitch also throw dope parties and openings that are packed with artistas, freaks, well doers, naysayers, the beautiful, the ugly, sometimes an orchestra and opera singer doing hip hop covers, sometimes 20 half dressed zombie types beating drums, electronics, guitars, or whatever else. And don't forget to check out the Art parade they throw every summer.
